My first cooking experience goes back to the time when I was in my early teens.
Everyone has that first day in their life for trying something new. Yes, it was my first day of cooking life and it turned out to be the most memorable day. Alone at home that rainy evening, thinking what to do, "noodles" is what popped my mind. I realized this was a perfect time to show my talent :) and surprise my parents.
It was my craze for noodles that motivated me to enter the kitchen. The recipe looked easy and instant. I followed the instructions of the packet.
Shh... Let me tell you a secret. At that time, I did not know the names of most ingredients. All that I knew was, I was preparing my favourite noodles. Yum! Yum!
I was excited. Joyfully gathering all the ingredients, cutting, boiling and frying the vegetables. I was doing all this for the first time. I enjoyed every moment. Yay! 🙌
To be honest, it looked delicious.
I was happily cooking till it was time for me to mix the masala for the final steps. I started adding the vegetables and spices one after the other just to realize that I have to throw away my dish. My First Dish :(
Pew! The dish turned out to be a disaster. Entire kitchen was smelling. I immediately got rid of the dish, opened all windows and sprayed the entire house so that when parents reach back home, they don't get any clue of what happened in their absence.
That day I realized how strong the spices can act if not added in proper quantity. I did add all the ingredients but the quantity differed as I was confused with some of the spices names.
I don't remember the ingredients used but that moment of disaster, I will never forget. Every time I think about it, it spreads a smile on my face :)
Not because of what I did but for taking the first step when I knew nothing about basic cooking.
Waiting to experience more of such FIRST DAY moments.
