Christmas - A gift of Love

Christmas! The most wonderful time of the year.

During this season, we are all busy decorating our houses, spending money on expensive items, buying best outfits, preparing various sweets, parties, loud music….so much time and efforts. Is this all Christmas is about?

If we ask why we celebrate Christmas, then most of us will say that it is the birth of Jesus or as a tradition, a part of the culture we follow. No one knows the exact birth date of Jesus. God doesn’t command us to celebrate Christmas nor we will earn any brownie points for doing so. So how can we make our Christmas more meaningful?

I asked a friend, “What is the meaning of Christmas?” and the reply was “Love”. If we think deeply, Christmas is Love. God loved us so much that he gave his only son to save us.

Love in other words is:
"Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs." - 1 Corinthians 13:4-5

To get the most of Christmas, lets bring a few changes in our lives:
Stop quarrels: Stop being arrogant and rude. When you don’t like something about someone, express it. Don’t hate the person because their opinions don’t go well with your opinions. Ignore the bad and forgive quickly. You don’t always have to win, but tell your opinion and also listen to what others have to say about their views.

Be kind: Love is that small act of kindness which you do without expecting anything back in return. It can be helping your colleague with their work difficulties or to be a listening friend. Be thankful for every little thing that others do for you.

Be patient: When you train your juniors or colleagues, give them your time. Be patient when answering their queries. Help them to clear the doubts. When they do mistakes, tell them how it affects and give suggestions to improve.

This Christmas, let’s cultivate the habit of being patient and kind and spread the gift of Love.
