Coorg - A place to fall in love with nature

We visited Coorg in September 2016. It was my first tour outside Goa.

From Goa to Mangalore, we board a bus and then further, we traveled from Mangalore to Coorg by cab. We enjoyed the scenic beauty as we were traveling through the ghats. We had a homestay in Madikeri city for 4 days and 3 nights.

Places visited:
1. Mallalli Waterfall

There are many other famous waterfalls in Coorg; Abby and Iruppa waterfall to name a few. After visiting the Mallalli waterfall, I will say, this is one of the best waterfalls to visit if you want to have some adventure.

To reach to the waterfall, you have to either walk through the rugged path or go by jeep and then climb down around 500 steps to reach the waterfall. We preferred to walk as it was fun for us. As you climb down the steps, you will find magical views of the waterfall gushing down the forested hills. You will also come across some of the parasitic leeches around the rocks and water so be careful. Also, don’t forget to carry your water bottle as you might need on the way. Once you reach the fall, enjoy and get ready as you have to climb up all the steps :)

2. Mandalpatti - Another adventurous spot
“Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations”
- is very true when it comes to Mandalpatti.

To go to the Mandalpatti top, park your vehicle at the checkpoint and then you can either take a jeep as the road is narrow and bumpy or walk if you love to trek. Once you reach the base, you have to walk further to reach the viewpoint.

As you go on the top, you will enjoy every turn unveiling new rows of hills. The viewpoint stands at more than 5,000 ft. above sea level with calming vibes and cool breeze.

As the road is very narrow and bumpy, it is best to hire a jeep to go. Don’t take your own vehicle.

3. Chiklihole Reservoir

Another place where we enjoyed. Although when we went, most of the regions were dry but we had a beautiful view around. A very peaceful place with a cool breeze. We had gone there in the afternoon and so it was very hot. Best time to visit this place is in the evening as it will be cool.

4. A Tea Estate

Thanks to our cab driver for suggesting us this place. We visited the Tea Estate early morning and took a walk along the tea plantations. A cool and silence place where you can just soak your self around the greenary.

Apart from the above, we also visited:

  • Raja Seat
  • Namdroling Monastery - The Golden Temple
  • Dubare Elephant Camp
  • Bamboo forest
  • Nagarhole National Park
  • Irruppa Waterfall

Namdroling Monastery - Also known as The Golden Temple

On the way to Nagarhole National Park
